Art, culture and food experiences
Central Market
The Mercato Centrale di Firenze (Florence Central Market), within the historical covered San Lorenzo Market, has food shops selling Tuscan products on the ground floor and a food court on the first floor that is like a little piazza of bountiful delicacies. A place you should enjoy in full, tasting different foods connected by something they all have in common: hand-made and genuine ingredients. From pizza to gelato, including delicious hamburgers, typical cheeses, and excellent wines. Discover a universe of flavors and experience the exciting events organized at the coolest place to be in the historical center, within walking distance of our hotel.
Duomo
The cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, or Duomo, is the symbol of our city. The monumental cupola designed by Brunelleschi gives the building a noble character, in contrast with the austere and simple inside of the church, typical of the Christian doctrine in the Middle Ages. A tour of the terraces of the Duomo, in spite of the countless steps that must be climbed to reach it, will give you a magnificent view of the historical center and of the hills right at the doors of Florence.
Galleria dell’Accademia
Commissioned by the Grand-Duke Leopold of Lorena in the late 18th century to host several masterpieces in a single Academy of Beaux-Arts, the Galleria dell’Accademia of Florence is a journey among wonders. Of course, from among its many marvels what stands out is Michelangelo’s David, originally located in Piazza della Signoria and an emblem of the art of sculpture. The Galleria dell’Accademia Gallery is also home of Michelangelo’s magisterial Prisons and St. Matthew.
Piazza della Signoria
Piazza della Signoria has always been the lively core of Florentine social life, busy from dawn to dusk thanks to the boutiques and elegant cafés it’s home to. At the center of the piazza sits the majestic Palazzo Vecchio, today the seat of the city government and originally a symbol of the Signoria political power. The building contains vast and splendid halls, including Salone del Cinquecento, decorated with paintings by Vasari.
